About Cypress Hills LDC

Cypress Hills Logo with green tree

Local residents and merchants founded Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) in 1983, after a period of rapid neighborhood change. Long-time residents had moved out, stores along the commercial strip closed, and banks decided our community was not a place to do business.

We seek to serve the more than 72,000 residents of Cypress Hills, a neighborhood located in the northeast corner of Brooklyn. Ours is a diverse community where an estimated 58% of residents speak a language other than English in the home, and the most common countries of origin are the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Bangladesh, Ecuador, and Trinidad and Tobago. The majority of our board members currently live or work in the neighborhood, and residents are continually involved in designing and refining our work.
