5.7.18: Families - As you are aware, we were waiting for the Mayor to reinstate funding for our camp. The executive budget came out last week and it still did NOT include a budget for our summer camp. This not only affects our program, it affects 34,000 kids and their families.
ACTION YOU CAN TAKE We are inviting you and your young people, or just your child if a permission slip is completed, to go to a City Council hearing on Youth Services tomorrow May 8th. It is important the city sees who is affected by the loss in funding. If you are able to attend we will be departing from Liberty Ave Middle School around at 3:00 and returning by 5:30 at the latest.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE OF SUMMER CAMP FUNDING
Due to the nature of our funding, we recommend you make alternative plans for summer camp. We are currently putting together a one-pager of suggested programs that are in the area that are free or a fee-based that we will post to our website by Friday.
TAKE ACTION FOR SUMMER CAMP! Tuesday, April 24th and Wednesday, April 25th
We need YOU to call City leaders and tell them children and families need summer camp programs this summer and they must restore summer programming for 34,000 middle school children in the Executive Budget
STEP 1: Make the Call to 311 STEP 2: Tweet about it!
On Tuesday, April 24th and Wednesday, April 25th between 9am and 5pm, program staff, parents, concerned New Yorkers and YOU must take action by calling City leaders
Call 311 to let our City leaders know that we are paying attention! Use this script as a guide for your call (and please be polite): Hi, my name is ________ and I am calling with a message for the Mayor:
The Preliminary Budget eliminates summer camp for 34,000 middle school children. I am calling to urge the Mayor to ensure the upcoming Executive Budget includes funding so that these middle school students have a safe and stimulating place to be while their parents are working this summer. Children who need a safe place after school, also need a program in July and August.
Note: You can also TEXT 311 at 311-692
SAMPLE TEXT: Mayor de Blasio – Please restore summer camp programs for at least 34,000 children. These children and their families are counting on you.
After you call or text, tweet about it to @NYCMayorsOffice SAMPLE TWEET: I just called @nyc311 @NYCMayorsOffice to say restore funding for 34,000 children to go to summer camp. #SaveSummer #Campaign4Children
Summer Camp Update March 16, 2018
As summer is rapidly approaching, we want to let you know about the current status of summer camp at LAMS, and at Cypress Hills LDC. The Mayor has not included funding for middle school summer camp in his budget. We have joined with other organizations around the city to fight for funding for our students. We invite and encourage you to join us in this important fight. We invite you to pre-register/reserve a spot for any LAMS camp that MIGHT be funded. We will have opportunities to pre-register on March 26th- 29th from 4:30 - 5:45. We commit to keeping you updated about how to make your voice heard on behalf of your child and our community, and about any updates on summer camp funding. (Should funding be allocated for camp, programs will run from early July to early/mid-August.)
To pre-register for Liberty Summer Camp you can pick up a form from our office the middle of March or download the forms here
